Cookie Policy
Last updated: June 1, 2026
PDFMax does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. We use a small number of functional values stored in your browser. With your explicit consent, we also load two optional analytics services — Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity — to understand how the site is used and improve it.
The short version
Traditional cookies are small text files sent back to a server with every request. PDFMax does not rely on that model for tracking. Instead, our website keeps a few small functional values in your browser using localStorage and IndexedDB. These values never leave your device automatically and are not transmitted to us or to anyone else.
No advertising. No cross-site tracking. No selling of data. Optional analytics are loaded only after you click Accept on the consent banner. If you click Decline, no analytics scripts run at all.
What we store and why
Below is a complete list of the functional values PDFMax may keep in your browser, what each is for, and how long it stays.
- pdfmax_lang — Purpose: remembers your chosen interface language so the site loads in the right language next time. Storage: localStorage. Duration: persistent until you clear it.
- i18nextLng — Purpose: stores the locale used by the underlying tool engine so menus and labels match your language. Storage: localStorage. Duration: persistent until you clear it.
- pdfmax_cookie_consent — Purpose: remembers the choice you made on the consent banner so we do not show it again on every visit. Storage: localStorage. Duration: persistent until you clear it.
- theme — Purpose: remembers whether you prefer the light or dark appearance. Storage: localStorage. Duration: persistent until you clear it.
- File library — Purpose: temporarily holds the documents you are working on so tools can process them client-side and so you can return to recent files. Storage: IndexedDB. Duration: persistent until you clear it or remove the files yourself.
All of the above is functional and strictly necessary for the features you actively use. None of it identifies you personally or follows you across other websites.
Optional analytics cookies (consent required)
If you click Accept on the cookie consent banner, the following two third-party services are loaded. If you click Decline, neither script is ever executed.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) — collects anonymised page-view and event data (IP anonymisation is enabled) to help us understand traffic patterns. Sets cookies such as
_gaand_ga_*. Data is processed by Google under their privacy policy. Retention: 14 months. - Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corp.) — records anonymised session replays and heatmaps to help us identify usability problems. Sets cookies such as
_clckand_clsk. Data is processed by Microsoft under their privacy policy. Retention: 12 months.
You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing pdfmax_cookie_consent from your browser's localStorage (see "How to clear this storage" below). The analytics scripts are not reloaded until you accept again.
Where your files go
Many PDFMax operations run entirely inside your browser through WebAssembly, and some run on our own engine; in either case your files are not handed to third parties. Documents stored in the local file library remain in your browser's IndexedDB on your device. Clearing that storage removes them.
Third-party cookies
We do not embed advertising networks or social media trackers. Analytics are optional and consent-gated as described above. Web fonts are loaded for presentation only and do not set tracking cookies that we control. If you block external fonts, the site still works with system fonts.
How to clear this storage
You are always in control. To remove everything PDFMax has stored, clear your browser's site data for this domain:
- Chrome / Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → See all site data, then remove the PDFMax entry. You can also clear data per site from the padlock icon in the address bar.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data, select PDFMax and remove it.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data, find PDFMax and remove it.
- Quick option: use your browser's private or incognito window, which discards local storage when you close it.
Clearing this data will reset your language, theme, consent choice, and remove any files saved in the local library.
Changes to this policy
If our use of browser storage changes, we will update this page and revise the date above. Because we avoid tracking by design, any future change will keep your data on your device wherever technically possible.
